Modern Coastal Living

05 May, 2021

Located at Snells Beach on the picturesque Mahurangi Peninsula, Rachel Gowling's modern, coastal build strikes the perfect balance between functional family home and beachside sanctuary.

Open and spacious
Creating a space that enabled the whole family to connect was central to the design of this beautiful build. The open-plan upper floor is the heart of the home; combining kitchen, dining and living room. This bright and light room provides the perfect backdrop for entertaining, relaxing and spending time as a family. To complement this lofty space, Rachel opted for Quick-Step Eligna Extra Wide laminate in Caribbean Oak Grey. The look of the grey toned wood teamed with the white and off-white paint palette, creates a light and airy feeling, reflecting the ocean and sky.

Texture and warmth
To ground her furniture and add softness and warmth to the room, Rachel positioned a Mackenzie Rug in Natural Straw and an Arrowtown Rug in Silver Birch in the 'living room' area of the upper floor. These chunky wool rugs introduce texture to an otherwise minimalist space, while their natural colouring ties in with the coastal meets bohemian style of the home.

Natural elements
To create a relaxed, easy vibe in tune with coastal living, Rachel incorporated natural elements into her furnishings and home decor items. Wicker and rattan, organic textiles and plenty of plants are scattered throughout the home, offer a calming and timeless backdrop for busy family life.

Soft, cut-pile carpet
For a cosier, more comfortable feels in the bedrooms, Rachel chose Pavetta Stainmaster carpet in Ixora. Soft underfoot, durable and stain resistant, this carpet proved perfect for Rachel's young family.
