Matt South's Inner City Sanctuary
Auckland based interior designer Matt South has been working incredibly hard over the past few months to update his recently purchased park-side apartment. This thoughtfully laid out home was calling out for texture and character. Matt has beautifully paired contemporary décor with mid-century modern inspired furniture to create his own home style. Dark wood accents and black hardware throughout the living area sit pretty amongst the morning light that fills the apartment. Plenty of plants reflect the greenery from the park as framed by the balcony, connecting and elongating both spaces.
In the living area of Matt’s apartment, he’s paired Quick-Step Majestic Laminate in Valley Oak Light Beige with brilliant white walls to work with as much natural light as possible. The extra wide planks in the Majestic range show off the rustic patterns and can cleverly trick the eye into believing the space is bigger than it is. This floor features an ultra-protective scratch guard layer that acts as a barrier between pet claws, dragged furniture and other common potentially damaging activities that are household realities. So this means, Matt’s little pug Dora isn’t going to get herself in trouble, scampering from one end of the apartment to the other.
In Matt’s master bedroom, the Loom Mundo Wool Carpet in Quicksand was installed. The Mundo range of carpets is exclusive Flooring Xtra and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share it with you, and Matt of course. Unapologetically bold loops of beautiful wool characterise this design. And yet there is nothing too audacious about this carpet. Each bold loop falls not quite uniform to its neighbours giving the carpet a wonderfully natural look.
